"The potential of osteopathy and psychology is a complementarity of approaches. It is necessary to understand and accept that the mechanical component is always linked to an emotional component and vice versa."
Dino Muzzi has been an osteopath for almost 30 years, practising and teaching ever since. He has developed a specific method in osteopathy for somato-emotional dysfunctions by combining osteopathy and Focusing.

On 20 November you can enjoy Dino Muzzi with a lecture at the ONLINE CONFERENCE 2021 of the Osteopathie Schule Deutschland:

"Focusing and osteopathy" https://web.cvent.com/event/e52b2684-e9a5-4ef1-9e61-f3eb9bc1f042/summary

Interview with Dino Muzzi by Torsten Liem:

IN WHAT WAYS CAN OSTEOPATHY AND PSYCHOLOGY LEARN AND BENEFIT FROM EACH OTHER?

The most important thing is the complementarity of psychology and osteopathy. From my experience of working with psychologists for several years, we have seen this complementarity many times. In my patients who are being treated and in whom the psychological component is very pronounced, follow-up by a psychologist can potentiate the osteopathic treatment and enable the resolution of certain blockages as well as accelerate the processing of the mechanical component. Conversely, for patients undergoing psychological treatment, where the evolution of the therapy tends to stagnate or plateau, osteopathic treatment has allowed a return of movement and a faster resolution of the psychological treatments.

WHAT POTENTIAL DO YOU SEE IN PSYCHOLOGY FOR OSTEOPATHY?

The potential, as I have already mentioned, is a complementarity of approaches. It is also necessary to understand and accept that the mechanical component is always linked to an emotional component and conversely the emotional component is always linked to a mechanical component. When there is a dysfunction, it is necessary to approach this dysfunction keeping in mind that either the emotional or the mechanical component may have greater importance. If the emotional component is predominant, I think it is necessary to work with psychologists in a complementary way to enable a complete resolution of the dysfunction.

WHAT MIGHT BE SOME CLINICALLY RELEVANT OUTCOMES FOR OSTEOPATHS FROM THEIR METHOD OF OSTEOPATHY FOR SOMATO-EMOTIONAL DYSFUNCTION THROUGH THE COMBINATION OF OSTEOPATHY AND FOCUSING?

I have worked for several years with a group of psychologists called the "Traumatys". We have followed a large number of patients suffering from post-traumatic stress and it is clear to me that the importance of the physical engram needs to be addressed in order to enable these patients to have a better existence and in some cases a complete resolution of the trauma. The combination of Focusing and Osteopathy is a very clear and simple way to potentiate our treatments in Osteopathy. The change can be felt directly on the table during the treatment. With this method it is possible to bring to light the deep meaning of tensions sometimes buried in the unconscious, without the involvement of the patient's mind or the therapist's interpretation.

WHAT POTENTIAL DO YOU SEE IN PSYCHOLOGY FOR OSTEOPATHY?

The potential is, as I said above, a complementarity in the approaches. It is also necessary to understand and accept that the mechanical component is always associated with an emotional component and conversely the emotional component is always associated with a mechanical component. When there is a dysfunction, it is necessary to approach this dysfunction keeping in mind that either the emotional or the mechanical can have a greater importance. If the emotional component is predominant, I think it is necessary to work with psychologists in a complementary way to enable a complete resolution.

I worked for several years with a group of psychologists called "Traumatys". We have followed a multitude of patients suffering from post-traumatic stress and it is clear to me that the importance of the physical engram must be treated to allow a better being in these patients and also, in some cases the complete resolution of the trauma. The combination of focusing and osteopathy is a very clear and easy way to potentiate our treatments in osteopathy and the change is noticeable directly on the table during treatment. This method makes it possible to bring out the deep meaning of the tension sometimes buried in the unconscious and this without the participation of the patient's mind or the interpretation of the therapists.
